Titanic

Everybody seems to be talking about the film Titanic these days. A few days ago, somebody asked me if I had seen the movie. When I told her I had, she enthusiastically told me that is it not only a must-see movie but a must-see again and again movie. She was gushing how beautiful the movie was.

I must concede the movie Titanic is one kind of film that you will want to see again and again. Blame it to our romantic hearts. Titanic touches on the aspects of a person’s existence and struggles against the conventions of his time. It showcased not only the grandeur and magnificence of the first luxury liner which its builders claimed to be unsinkable but also tells about the ill-fated romance of two young lovers (Jack and Rose) beautifully portrayed by Leonardo diCarpio and Kate Winslet.

The passionate romance of Jack and Rose set against the backdrop of the ocean liner on the high seas will no doubt appeal to the romantic at hearts especially the young generation.

The film unfolds on the screen through the narrative of a 101 year-old survivor portrayed by Gloria Stuart. Aboard the mighty ship bound for New York was a conglomeration of people ranging from millionaires to penniless immigrants dreaming of a better world in America. Among these more than 2,000 passengers was Jack, a self-taught young artist traveling on cheapest accommodations, and Rose, a young lady of high standing about to be trapped in a loveless marriage.

As fate would have it, the two met and fell in love. Theirs is a love story that will surely tug at your heart.

Award-winning director James Cameron is to be credited for the success of this film. According to the news the film has grossed more than $337 million in the United States alone. Aside from this financial success, the film is already a winner of four Golden Globe awards for the year’s best dramatic film, best director, best original score and best original song.

It has been said before that in time of disaster the true nature of a person comes out. There are people who will go out of their way to help others even if it will cost them their own life. On the other hand, there are those who will look the other side and think only of saving themselves. This reality is graphically captured in this tragic movie.
